1988 to Present
Decorating this 1988 Honda Civic has been continuous for almost forty years. I began by hanging earrings on the ceiling, slowly adding more and more elements. Later on, I started making objects for the dashboard, then sewing and painting panels for the doors, covers for the seats and other sculptural pieces. All these things continue to be in process because of breakage and shifting.
All the art is on the inside of the car, making it like a private sanctuary when driving. The radio no longer works; sounds are provided by the tinkling, shifting, clanging of hanging things as well as ball bearings shooting through conduit tubes which circle the ceiling. Today, the car still runs and drives around locally.
